Does anyone has any good/bad experience with refurbished items? I am planning to get a refurbished motherboard from newegg.com since its refurbished, there's no warranty on it but its 50 dollars cheaper than the original items. Any comments are welcome. Thanks

Unless you can determine what was refurbished, it's not work the risk. e.g. if it had a bios flash chip that failed (a common reason mboards are returned) and that was replaced, it's probably a good buy.
Even still, not having a warranty is not worth the difference in price.

I have bought several refurbed items from Newegg and never had problems with any of them, most of the time what you get is just the component with no manual or other accessories in the packaging.
However when it comes to motherboards in particular, I've only bought one and it did not come with an I/O backplate, and that is not something I wanted to go through so I sold it on fleabay and funny enough made a little profit from the transaction.
jam seemed to be luckier, but at the same time he's bought more motherboards from there than I did and I don't recall problems with his components either. With the prices I don't think I have any complaints.

You have to be careful about who you buy refurbished items from. The amount of refurbishment depends entirely on the seller. But I think I would trust Newegg.
Sorry, I do not check for private messages

Newegg seem pretty good look like. I just e-mailed Asus about refurbished motherboard. And I got the respond saying that all products have 3 years warranty? Do you think that guy is smoking some pot or something? or am I getting lucky?

I've purchased several boards & several video cards from newegg's refurbed section. Many of them are simply customer returns. Some were shipped as the bare board or card (not cables, driver CD, etc...others have come in full retail box with all the fixings. I did have one refurbed ASUS Ti4200 go bad on me, but that was after a year of use. I simply contacted ASUS (never told them it was refurbed) & RMA'd the card. They replaced it with a Ti4800SE...I'm still using it in my backup machine.
Buying refurbed items is definitely a gamble, but the savings can be substantial & newegg is one of the most reputable online vendors there is. You have 15 days to evaluate the item to see if there's a problem with it & you *should* still be entitled to the full manufacturer's warranty if something goes wrong after the 15 day limit.

Geez dude, use your head!
Yes, ASUS products have a 3 yr warranty, but do NOT tell them that you bought it as refurbed! I think you're the one who's been smoking pot...lol

It not a matter of luck but standard procedure that a lot of folks tend to overlook. Most of the time resellers only cover products for a limited time because they only stock individual items for a limited period of time.
Once demand dwindles for the related items they simply do not replenish their stock.
