Reformat HDD without reformatting system

Specs: Windows XP, 3gb
how can i reformat without deleting or harming my system files!!!!!in a specific hard drives!!!hmm...heheheh!!!!!please help me!!!!

You need to explain that one better. Are you talking about XP files or your own personal files. If you reformat, you will loose all your persona; stuff including programs etc. You can do an XP repair which will only fix corrupt windows files and not affect your personal stuff. Why do you feel the need to reformat. That's a last option.

... this could be an alternative click here you can use your windows to install itself from a bootable "iso" image when you create a cd/dvd from it.

By definition a format wipes everything.

One could in theory format a drive and leave data. It can't be done in practice.

What you should do is make a complete backup with NTbackup and include system state. Then you can format either low level, full or quick and reload OS and then apply the restore.
