i want to know if i re-install windows, will that clean my hard drive? if not, what can i do to reformat the hard drive. another question...my hard drive makes loud noises and operates slowly, but when i put in a floppy disk into my drive it all stops. whats the deal with that?

From what you describe, your problem (or at least the principal one) is not with Windows. But to answer your question, no, a simple reinstall of Windows (over itself) will not "clean" your hard drive. To do that you need to use a boot disk and use fdisk & reformat commands. (Everything on it will then be erased.)

If your hard drive is making loud noises and not running as it should, it may be about to die. But before we conclude that, when is the last time you ran the Windows disk cleaner and defragment utilities?
