Recover hard drive files

Specs: Windows 7
Lost files on hard drive by attempting to reinstall windows, best way to recover? Looking for software suggestion, lost mainly media fed - photos and videos

You may or may not be able to recover the files, it depends on whether that portion of the HDD was overwritten with new data or not. The more you use the computer, the less likely your chances of data recovery will be.

I think it would also be wise to run the Recuva sotware from another computer, with the drive in trouble attached either via usb or a slave. Certainly save "anything" REcuva finds to separate drive...

The idea with both of the above suggestions being to minimise the writing of anything further to the "troubled drive"... The less one writes to that drive, the greater the chances of recovery of some files at least?

By "reinstalling" Wimdows, did you delete the disk-partition or did it save the old windows and installed a new copy.
Is there a "Windows.old" folder present?

there are many recovery tools online and you can try them on by one. you can find them easily, such as:
I can't guarantee all files can be recovered, as overwritten files are unrecoverable. anyway just have a try
