recover external hard disk water damage

Specs: Windows XP
i had an external hard disk and unfortunately, it fell in water
At this moment, i can see the screeching sound and lights on the hard disk. But my laptop does not recognize the hard disk. Please help

Did you let it dry out long enough. It's possible it will work if you give it enough time to dry. By plugging it in with water still present, is a sure way to fry it.

To be dropped in water is one of the worst things that can happen to a hard drive. I suspect that only commercial data recovery would have any chance of recovering your data. The cost of this is likely to be very high, $1000 or more. If the data is worth that then contact a reputable data recovery company.

You should always have a backup of important data. To have only a single copy, particularly on an external drive, is asking for trouble.
