Subject: Recommed one of these MotherBoards
OS: Windows XPSP2
CPU/Ram: Pent 4 3.2 2 Gigs Ram
Model/Manufacturer: ASUS P5P800
Comment:

I am using Nikon CaptureNX very processor sensitive software and PhotoShop CS2 running at the same time. I will install 4 Gigs of Memory DDR2 PC6400 because it is cheap...I am looking at the following: AMD Phenom Quad Core Processor 9600 with GeForce6100PM-M2, takes DDR800/667/533 and has PCI-E Upgrade slot for $280 including tax. or Pentium Dual Core ASUS P5GC-MX/1333 with Intel945GC Chipset, IntelGMA950 Video, PCI-E (x16) upgrade slot. $165.00 cost. What would you guys do if you are on a limited budget and I seem to get a new MB every 2-3 years?

Othehill I added the word MOTHERBOARD in the paragraph. I should have been more accurate. AMD Phenom Quad Core Processor 9600 with GeForce6100PM-M2 MOTHERBOARD, takes DDR800/667/533 and has PCI-E Upgrade slot for $280 including tax. Or the Pentium Dual Core ASUS P5GC-MX/1333 with Intel945GC Chipset, IntelGMA950 Video, PCI-E (x16) upgrade slot.

The Phenom itself sells for about $250. There are definitely better board choices though...just not for $30...lol.

Do you have any other combo possibilities?

OtheHill...the AMD MBoard is listed in the paper from Frys in San Diego. These computers have become commodities and I can not afford to upgrade to the latest and greatest out there. I usually buy a processor that is a couple of years old. I have had good luck with ASUS but not ECS MBs. Any suggestions?

Are you saying that the ASUS P5GC-MX motherboard costs $165 ? If so, I would go with a motherboard that uses the Intel P35 chipset for the Northbridge. You can get the Abit IP35 Pro from newegg for $140 after ebate, and it gets a lot of very good reviews in many places.

"I can not afford to upgrade to the latest and greatest out there. I usually buy a processor that is a couple of years old"

Then why are you considering a Phenom? Why wouldn't you do something like this:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Brisbane 2.6GHz - $100

BIOSTAR TForce TF7050-M2 AM2 motherboard - $75
