I need to know the difference in looks between SATA & PATA connections for a CD/DVD driev for my PC. I opened the side cabinet of my PC & could see, with the help of a flashlight, a wide-like thick ribbon with a connecter at the end plugged into the upper back of the CD/DVD Driver drawer. Is this SATA or PATA?

The power and Motherboard cables differ between SATA and PATA devices.

What you are describing is probably PATA.

Google for SATA and PATA and you will see this and therefore become clear to you.

When everything else fails, read the instructions.
