realtek alc268 on Toshiba Satelite 200

Specs: Windows XP
I have XP Pro OpSys and everything operated OK till now.
I had to re-install XP Pro and now I cannot get the Realtek ALC268 driver to work
I have tried to uninstall the Audio Device but it wont uninstall.
I have downloaded the driver SA200-RealtekSnd- but on the end of the installation a message appears:Realtek HD Audio Driver failure.
Can anyone help plase.

Did you laptop originally come with Vista installed? There are no sound drivers available for WinXP listed on the Toshiba site. If you previously had the sound working then you must have gotten the drivers elsewhere.

This is why it is not a good idea to downgrade the OS.

I suggest you download and use SIW to try and determine the sound chip you have. Then go to Toshiba, Dell, Acer, emachines, etc to find a computer that uses the same sound chip in WinXP.

Downloading generic drivers from Realtek is a last ditch solution. They will not have the features that were originally available on your laptop.
