Here the situation. My friend blew his motherboard and he gave me his P4 1.8 GHz processor. I have a motherboard compatible with this processor but it needs 4 RDRAMs, I was thinking 2x256MB and 2 C-RIMMs.
I was also thinking about just buying a different mobo that takes DDR. I already have one 256MB DDR and I will buy another if I buy the mobo.

Is RDRAM that much better then DDR that I should just go out and by the RDRAM instead? Or am I just better off saving my money and using the DDR?

I have the rest of the components. It just comes down to RAM or Mobo. Thanks

I have one machine with RDRAM, a Dell. I thought I was doing the right thing when I bought it, but in hindsight, and after reading all sorts of reviews and my own experience with the Dell and all my other PC's, I can't see a difference -- except that RDRAM was very expensive at the time it was hyped. I would avoid getting married to it.

i have one computer with it. At first, Intel was raving about rdram, and most of the products came with support for it. Then they quickly jumped boat, going for the cheaper and quicker memory.

rdram is fast, but i think now it's only better for servers. Otherwise, if I were you, I'd going with DDR instead. rdram is still somewhat expensive, and you need to buy them in pairs.

It all comes down to what the machine will take. At this time DDR is cheaper then RDRAM and trying to get C-RIMMS might be tough. What ever you decide I would get the memory from www.buymemory.com. I have upgraded a few computers myself, some using RDRAM, others DDR and they have always been great with pricing as well as excellent customer service/support.
