I was copying some data on my external 3.5" external Hard Disk (Seagate Brand), suddenly the copying process stopped and drive disappeared from my computer. Now every time I click that partition, windows asks for formatting the drive. File system is also raw. Please help...thanks & regards

Subject: XP wants to format hardrive

Hey, I've had this problem before. Only with two harddrives chalk full with data. This isn't an issue of hardware, it's an issue of XP's reformatting tool corrupting the partition of said harddrive. This happens if you reformat the main harddrive with the slave harddrive still attached to the system.
There is a way to fix it, however. And I did a lot of digging to find this. There's a program called Testdisk, which you can find easily by typing into a search. It's a program that's runs in a Windows dos window. When you run it, it'll automatically detect your harddrive and then you can select the option rebuild the partition structure. This'll retrieve all your data.Hope this helps. :)
