the fan on my computer's power supply is making an odd rattling sound. besides the fact that its rattling, it doesnt seem like its effecting anything, but i just want to make sure. is there any way to fix this apart from just buying a new power suppply?
If you are handy with tools, the fan can be replaced.

I have the same problem. I will not leave the PC running if I am not sitting next to it. I fear soon, if the fan is not replaced it may lock up and things will then overheat. I have seen them at PC fairs for around £5 ($7).

You can try carefully blowing the dust/lint out of the power supply with some compressed air (canned). Unplug power first :) If that doesn't do the trick and the power supply is working fine other than making fan noise, replace the fan. Most power supplies I've opened up use a standard 80mm case fan although I've run into one that used a narrower fan housing so a standard size wouldnt fit.
A search at pricegrabber shows they cost around $7 but shipping doubles that.
My suggestion is pull the power supply out, crack it open and measure the fan. Run to your local pc supply shop and see if they can do you better than online.
ps- don't stick your tongue on any power supply internals, it might bite!
