I Have just built a PC with the following spec.
Athlon XP 3200+ with GlobalWin heatsink and fan.
Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard.
1024 MB RAM (2x 512 unbranded).
Seagate Baracuda 160GB Serial ATA HDD.
TDR CDRW.
52x CD ROM
ThermalTake V2000+ Aluminium case with ThermalTake 360w psu.
Mitsumi FDD.
Genius 10/100 NIC.When I tried to install XP, the system shut down at the disc format stage (about 5% of the way through). This happened a few times, so I selected quick format, and it worked.
The OS installed, but now I get random shutdowns (quite often) no other software is installed except the drivers supplied by Asus.
Any ideas??????????????

Does your MB support a 160GB disk, as i had a similar problem. if MB does'nt support large drives say over 80GB +. I've seen windows OS bomb out during installations. Unfortuately the solution can be a nightmare, MB upgrade maybe required, find model No. of board and download a patch for it hopfully that might clear the issue. Also how ever unlikely the HD might be faulty assuming it's newish. Try intstalling windows on the HD on another PC 1st. Remeber always test hardware on another machine 1st

Hey i got the same problems too!
IT can just shut down when you are in the middle of doing something. so fastrating!
sometimes it also appears a blue screen with error message and some techincal faults i think. my problem seems that my grahic card doesnt go well with my com. is that possible?

The board is a pretty new one from Asus, so the 160GB serial ATA should work fine. I will try a new grahics card. I've just checked the exact type in the pc. It is a GeForce 4 Ti4600 from Sparkle (128MB).
Thanks.
