i have been getting random reboots on my pc and think it may have started since i installed a dvd writer in my pc. I have a 300 watt power supply and am running 3 ram modules, 1 hard disk,3 ide cd rom drives including the dvd writer, 2 pci cards could these reboots be related to my psu? i hooked up a volt meter to the 5 volt line,it was a bit low it went down to 4.65 - 4.75 sometimes and so i rearanged all the molex connecters around and i am getting on some molex connecters 4.97 and on others 5v so could this now be the end of my problem? and why have the voltages changed just because i rearanged them?, also sis sandra and bios report the 5 volt line a lot lower than my volt meter so i think this is strange as well. any suggestions or advice appreciated on this matter.

well if all was fine pre writer, and all is bad post writer...the writer is the prob.

thats kind off a small PSU. perhaps the writer pushed the PSU a bit over the limit or at the limit.

pull it out and see if the system operates normally again.

if so, then reinstall writer and make sure u have all latest updates for the writer.
if it sill give ya probs, i would venture to say, yer PSU is to small.

thanks i will take the writer out tomorrow and see if this rememdies the problem, and if it does i probably will look into buy ing a new power supply the only trouble is it does not very often happen so i could have to wait a few days for the resalts to be sure that is.

It sounds like a power shortage prob, i had a similar prob when i put my mates hard disk in. It kept randomly rebooting and crashing the system.
