Solved Random power shut downs

Specs: Windows 8
I put together a new build a couple of weeks ago and can't figure out why I keep getting power shutdowns (no matter if I'm only on the start up menu). The time it takes can vary from 5 min - 1 hr, and seems to be accelerating. Temps all seem fine (CPU doesn't go over 40C). Any ideas?

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3
MSI 970A-G46
Thermaltake TR2 600W

in Win 8, try typing in search box, memory diagnostic, and see if it brings up a utility that allows you to restart and test the memory. or go to the control panel and under administrative tools menu. Is the power supply new?

To err is human but to really screw things up, you need a computer!

Thanks, just ran the memory diagnostic and no issues were detected. All of the components are brand new except the HDD.

It sounds like the power supply might be bad. It should have sufficient power but is of an older design (two 12 volt rails and 72% efficient). If you have another power supply you can use to test this theory, it would be helpful. If you purchased it locally, you may be able to swap it out for another one, or they may be able to test it for you.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Just a follow-up: I took the PSU back and replaced it with a Corsair 750W and haven't had any more issues. Thanks for everyone's input.
