Wrong memory, mismatched or improperly installed. Just because it's Rambus does not mean it is the correct module.

Doesn't RAMBUS have to be installed in pairs?

Hi,

jam is right on.

If you currently have 128mbs of Rambus in your machine, then I would say that it is 2 64mb modules. Also, if you have 4 memory slots, then the other two slots have Crimms in them.

To upgrade your machine to 256mbs, you will need to get 2 more 64mb modules and place them where the Crimms are. They have to match each other and they should also match the pair already installed in the other channel.

If your machine has only two slots for memory, then you would have to install two 128mb modules to get up to 256. And as was the case with the 64mb modules, you will have to match them.

The failed promise of Rambus memory. Not any noticeable improvement and too darn expensive.

Yes it has to be in pairs.

GXI Man is correct. They have to be in pairs and that is why I always advised people to purchase kits when dealing with this type of memory.

Crimms have a smaller profile than the actual memory modules and are used as place holders simply because all channels on a Rambus system must be filled. They provide continuity.
