Ram Upgrade Question

I have a toshiba satellite thats out of warranty, so they charge for tech support. Now i wanna upgrade the ram. The ram that the toshiba website say PC2-4200 up to 1500MB but the ram i pulled out of the machine says: pc2700s-25331-AO 512MB DDR PC2700 CL2.5 Is DDR2 backwards compatible with DDR?
