Hey all,
I am looking for rammies for an old inspiron 8200 I am sending to my Mom, but don't know if the 333MHz speed ram will work in it. I chatted with Crucial the other day and got nowhere except to a link he sent me to buy what they had, which did NOT state specific speed, just DDR PC2700. No real help there.
I found a couple of sites that list 333 for this laptop, but would like an overall consensus of whether this speed is okay for this machine or not. it's cheap enough everywhere and the 266MHz/200pin is getting harder to find.
Thanks,
Chuck

"DDR PC2700" is 333MHz RAM. In theory, you could even throw 400MHz DDR in and it should downclock to match the slowest RAM present.
Coffee...The true life blood of the IT Industry!

What's the problem? Everything you need to know is listed at the Crucial site:
"Each memory slot can hold DDR PC2700 with a maximum of 512MB per slot"
"200-pin SODIMM, DDR PC2700 memory"
"DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR333 • 2.5V • 64Meg x 64"
http://www.crucial.com/store/listpa...

Thank you very much to you both for the help and education. :) Not sure how I missed the line of "DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR333 • 2.5V • 64Meg x 64."
So, if I put in 333MHz instead of 266MHz ram, will this old 'n slow box speed up at all noticeably different between the two? (I doubt it given the fact that the user (my mom) is very basic.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
Chuck

If you mix DDR333 with DDR266, all RAM will run at DDR266 speed. Regardless of that, you'll see no significant performance difference between DDR266 & DDR333...the performance increase will be due to the increase in total amount of RAM.
You never stated how much RAM you have installed but 512MB should be considered the minimum for decent performance with XP.
