RAM slots not working

Comment:
I have a Duron computer with 3 slots for RAM. I had 128 installed on the first slot. I added another 128 stick to the 2nd slot and it didnt recognize it. After a whole bunch of playing around, I figured out that RAM is not being read from 2 of the slots. Only the first one reads RAM, anyone know why and what to do?

what are the mobo and chipset brands? you may have to have ram installed in pairs (ECC, Parity) depnding on the board. but if it has three slots then it probably does'nt (atleast I have yet to see one that did) but if by some chance it does need ECC,Parity ram then you have to get the ram chips in pairs made by the same manufacturer. Hope this helps

I have come across wirrd setups on motherboards where you have to put ram in the first slot, then the THIRD slot then the second slot.
But are you sure it is the correct type of memory? If you have your board setup manually to run PC133, and you have bought for example, a PC66 or PC100 stick, the system will not boot.
Best thing to do, is take out ALL f the ram, and just put the new one in, and see if that works.
The other thing is the ram MAY be faulty!

I have tried just putting the new RAM in and it only works in the first slot. I am sure it is PC133 because the current RAM that was in there was PC133. Im sure its not the RAM.
Summary: Check the mainboard manual (or MicroStar's website if you haven't got the manual) to see what RAM modual combinations are supported. You could also try putting one of the 256 MB modules in the third ...

Summary: I agree with OtheHill...it's almost certainly a density issue. For a 512mb stick to work, your system would have to support a max capacity of 1.5GB RAM. If you check your manual or the manufactuer's w...
