I just bought this mobo:

and this cpu:

(thanks jam)

I am looking to get some RAM next. From what I have read online and on MSI's sight, I need to use single sided sticks to run at 400mhz. If I want to run 1ghb dual channel, do I need to matched sticks of 512mb that has single sided chips?
This is my first build and I have never dealt with dual channel before. I know they don't have to be exact, but I will probable buy a pair just to be safe.

You have two choices:

1. make sure to get single-sided RAM

2. get double sided RAM & overclock the CPU frequency to 250MHz. The RAM will automatically run at 208MHz, not to mention your CPU speed will jump up to 2.75GHz :-)

Play it safe & buy a dual channel kit. Here's one possibility:

I wanted to try overclocking. (after I get the machine together and running first) I assume dual sided is easier and cheaper. If I can oc it and improve the entire pc, I will get the dual. Thanks

Will this also run one stick? I had heard that some systems won't, but that was a long time ago. I would like to get it together and running before I buy new memory for it.

You may be confusing this with Rambus (RDRAM) memory technology, which requires memory sticks to be installed in sets of two or where open memory slots must be filled with continuity (CRIMM) modules to terminate the other slot(s).

Your motherboard will run one stick independently.

Yeah, you can run one stick. Obviously it won't be in dual channel mode so performance will suffer somewaht.

Did you order the board yet? Go to the MSI website & download the board manual & read it over. The memory info begins on page 2-7

ok, after looking at the chart, to run dual channel, I would put the matched sticks in slots 1&3 to run them on channel A?
I have the feeling that this is easier than I am making it.

When every necessary precaution has been taken - that's more like the spirit ;-)
