Ok, I need a little help here. I have one stick of 512 SDRAM, and when I bought it from a friend, he told me the RAM was overclocked. Well, the ram is about a year old. Lately, my computer has been doing some strange things, namely locking up when there are more than 4 things running at once. So I decided to use Norton System Doctor to monitor my memory. It starts out between 300 and 400MB, and eventually drops down to 0 within a few hours.

Also, many times, everything that is hooked up through my USB ports (my printer and mouse) just lock up and stop working. I can still use Windows, it hasn't frozen, but I can't print or use my mouse!!!

Do these problems stem from the fact that the RAM was overclocked, or is it something else? How can I fix these problems?

One more thing, my friend also mentioned that he had used glue or something for the heatsink (???)and said that some could have gotten on something?? I don't seen anything wrong with the motherboard.....

SD RAM is very cheap right now. PNY brand 256 mb = 70.00. CompUSA brand 256 mb = 40.00. CompUSA brand is made by PNY. I would suggest buying new RAM, because if a stick gets messed up then there is no telling what it will do. Sometimes it might act normal and sometimes it will freak out. Luckily - you have a return policy on that RAM you will buy. If it doesn't fix the problem you have officially narrowed the problem down to your processor/motherboard. Good luck on all of that.

Consider backing everything up soon.
