Comment:

I have a problem!
My motherboard is an asus k8s-mx. I brought 2 high density 1gb ram cards from fastmemoryman on ebay, but when i install them the machine only recognises them as 512mb each and not 1gb each.
This motherboard is fairly modern so i would have thought it could handle anything. Says it can support 2gb ram in the manual.

Can anyone help :)

Thankyou
Jamie

Check to see if there is a small sticker on the side of the sticks of RAM. There will usually be somwthing there to tell you the stick's capacity. If they are not 1 GB (1024 MB) apiece, go after fastmemoryman and press charges. If they are 1 GB apiece, there could be a problem in the BIOS.

Thanks for your response. I have tried the ram in different motherboards and the same things happening.
However they are all asus motherboards so im guessing that they are simply not compatible with this type of ram.
Il probably give asrock a try and see if i have any luck
Thanks again

Did you check if the density is competable with the Ram frequency?
My board hase a fsb of 400Mhz and can handle a max of 2gb Ram but not a 400 only lower. At 400Mhz it can only andle 1gb max with a density of 512mb a piece.Maybe if you lower the fsb memory speed it can handle the 1gb cards.
