Comment:

Recently, i installed two different rams in my computer and i found that my computer did not detect the exact value of memory.

ram :
slot 1: Transcend 1gb DDR2 800 (smaller size)
slot 2: Kingston 1gb DDR2 667 (bigger size)

When i checked in the properties of computer icon, only 1gb ram is shown. But when i check using cpu-z, it showed 2gb memory.

Is that i need to use 2 identical rams which are same in size and frequency? OR It doesnt matter, the computer will use up 2gb anyway...???

I think you need them to be the same. They don't just give sizes for no reason.

You normally need a matched pair to enable dual channel mode but there shouldn't be a problem pairing up DDR2-667 with DDR2-800 as long as you realize both will run at DDR2-667 speed (333MHz). As for how much memory your system can use - how would we know, you didn't list the make/model or any other specs?

Pull the RAM, clean the contacts, pop them in & out of the slots a couple of times & make sure you're using the correct slots. If you only have 2 slots...no problem, but if you have 4 slots & 2 memory sticks, the manual probably recommends which 2 slots to use.

If CPU-Z is reading the full 2GB then that means there is no problem with the RAM. Windows is using some memory for itself (video card, etc) and thats why you dont see the full 2GB in the systems properties. Check the bios to make sure and run an online scan tool at memory sites such as www.crucial.com or a simpler one at www.diahmemory.com to say for sure.

Where does bigger and smaller come into play here? Both are 1GB. 800 is fast RAM than 667.

With only 2GB of installed RAM no video is going to use that much of the RAM. The RAM is probably not compatible with the motherboard. Either the density of the capacity of the modules is most likely the issue.
