hi
amd athlon xp 2600+
aopen ak778xn board
geforce4 ti4200 128mb 8xi am experiencing a weird problem while trying to run quake3, unreal etc. when i try to run q3 windows crashes and i get a blue screen. i've removed one of the rams. (sorry for my english eh) and everything worked correctly (games). now what should i do? what may cause this problem to occur? how can i fix that?
also, my cpu temrature is the way too high. i run the cpu fan (thermaltake 9) around 3500-4000 rpm. but it is still 54C / 129F.
is it normal?

You definitely have a heat problem. Check the heatsink/cpu connection. Make sure you have the proper amount of thermal paste or the patch is good. And make sure you have the cpu mounted correctly and that the heatsink is attached correctly. It sounds like maybe there's something not quite right there. Good luck. HTH

I disagree, 54C is not bad for an Anthlon XP 2600+.
If you removed one RAM stick and it works OK, don't you think that the stick you removed might be bad?

I agree that 54C is an acceptable temp for that CPU. Get over 60 and be concerned, and when you hit 70 you definitely need to upgrade your cooling solution, as least IMO.
It does seem logical that your mem stick is bad, but I'd remove the "good" one and try it with just the "bad" one to test the theory. It may be the memory slot on the motherboard.
Good luck.

i've run memtest86 and couldn't find any errors. i've tried the rams one by one. and they both worked correctly. i think i've done smth wrong on bios configuration.

If you've tested both sticks, one by one, in the same slot (first slot) and they both worked correctly, doesn't it seem logical that your 2nd slot is bad? Or, did you try the memory, when doing them one by one, in different slots?

no i've tested them on different slots. but it doesn't matter i have fixed it. if anybody encounters smth like that, i suggest them to first update their bios. if this doesn't solve the problem then try to set the dram configuration manually. (yes you have to learn it.) if you set the correct parameters, then everything should be ok.
