All my memorys are DDR. I bought my computer with a 256 mb. For the games work better i bought an 512 Kningsto.. Then there camed the hardware "eating" softwares and games. So i decided to buy i 256 ram (ddr Transcend) to have 1 gb. So my problem is that after i put the newest ram into my mainboard every time my pc rebootts itself. I tried all kind of ways, but it just didin'y worked. In the System info it read that i have 1 gb.I removed the older 256 and putted the newest ram memory in that sot and then i powered up my pc it worked fine. i really don't know what to do. Now i'm just using 768 mb.

i previously had asus a7v8x mobo. it had three slots - in the handbook which i still have it says if ram is run at 266mhz i can use all 3 slots, if run at 333mhz only two slots and if at at 400mhz only one slot may be used. It does not say why. I always used it at 333 with two slots so never found out what would happen if i tried more slots than it said. Has your mobo got some strange 'feature' like this?

YES! I have the same option. But how to configure my mainboard (or what i have to) to 266 Mhz. My processor is amd which has been overclocked from 1800 to 2400. Won't this affect my computer stability?

If your CPU is supposed to run at 1.8GHz, you probably have a an AXP 2200+ (13.5 x 133MHz). And if you've overclocked it to 2.4GHz, that would mean you have the FSB crannked up to roughly 178MHz. The other possibility is you have an AXP 1800+ & you have cranked up to 2400+ speed. Either way, you need to clarify what you have & what you've done to accomplish the overclock.

You also need to tell us what RAM you have PC2100, PC2700, or PC3200 & whether all sticks are the same. If you pair up a PC2100 stick with PC2700 or PC3200, ALL sticks must run at the speed of the slowest, which would mean PC2100.

Another thing is that when you overclock a socket A board, you'll get best performance when the CPU & RAM run at the same bus speed. There's no point running the RAM at 200MHz (DDR400/PC3200 speed) if the CPU is only running at 178MHz. Conversely, there's no point in overclocking the CPU to 178MHz if the RAM is lagging behind at 133MHz (DDR266/PC2100 speed).

Also, the PCI & AGP busses should be locked at their default speeds of 33MHz & 66MHz. Unfortunately, most VIA based boards don't provide this option so you have to be careful when raising the FSB so that the PCI/AGP busses don't go too far out of spec.

The bottomline is you're not gonna get the help you need unless you explain exactly what settings you've changed & what RAM you have. Then maybe someone will be able to straighten this mess out.

Here's your m-board info:

The new ram you bought is probably incompatible with your mboard.
You don't just go buy ram willy-nilly these days, especially if it is DDR ram. You have to make sure it is going to be compatible before you buy it. There are too many factors involved other than the mhz it runs at and the PCxxxx rating.
See response 5 in this for more info about compatibilty
