RAM issue causes crash

Specs: Windows XP, dual core pentium 4gb ram

Here is a problem Ive never had before with a computer.

My computer is a hp pavilion a6500
Intel Pentium e220 dual cpu 2.4ghz
2x2048mb ram sticks (only 2 ports)
1tb hd
came with vista but i put xp on it
1gb video memory

Ok so here was the issue. The computer crashed whenever i used larger programs or 45mins ish (whichever came first). I did the usual tests and even reformatted just incase it was software. The problem persisted. So after a while I came up with the idea to try the ram 1 at a time. In the left port the ram works however the right port they dont.

Ill also note computer worked since day 1 with both chips.

So heres the question:
Does anyone have any ideas on getting the other port working?

Im thinking 2 possibilities exist:
A) port is broken
B) for some reason these chips wont work together nemore

O and here is the ram stick details:
2x 2gb 2rx8 PC2-6400U-666-12
made by Hynix

PS: I just want my 4gb back :)

Id like to add:

I ran a bunch of different ram tests using the hp software and bios software and both said ram was fine.

You need to run a real memory test from a bootable floppy or CD. Windows needs to be taken out of the picture. Go to the following site, download memtest86+, create the disk or floppy, then test your RAM the right way. Do you know how to burn an ISO?
