Comment:

this was my first time installing memory.
after consulting you guys a few days ago i found out that applying some power on the ram while inserting would not hurt it.
but when it came to application i had to use all my power to lock it completely in.
after that the computer didn't boot. it didn't even beep.
so i removed the new ram and left the old one only. and the computer booted fine.
do you think i damaged the ram or the dimm slot?
how can i understand that the dimm slot is ok?

The most likely situation in your case is not that you damaged a dimm slot, those are almost unbreakable. You probably just have incompatible memory for your board. Give us more specs and we can see what kind of RAM you need.

Sounds either you have a dodgy stick of ram or your motherboard only can deal with a certain density of RAM.
