Hi, I'm having issues getting some new ram working correctly. I've been using two 512mb slots in my mobo no problems, but I bought 2 1g chips and whenever i put those in i get nothing. I've taken out the old chips and just tried 1 new one but it gets to winxp screen and freezes every time. Motherboard is Asus A8v deluxe, the new ram is 1gb pc3200. Also I've noticed the slot used is b1 and b2 not sure if that makes a difference. I wouldnt think I'm suppose to make any changes to bios for a simple upgrade Or do i need to update bios for this to work? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

How about posting the brand name of the RAM & where you got it from. If it's from eBay, all bets are off. I recently bought 2GB (2 x 1GB) of Crucial PC3200 from Frys.com for $15 after rebate.

Apparently when this QVL was created, 1GB sticks weren't available:

Also, if you haven't upgraded your BIOS, RAM compatibility *may* have been addressed in one of the newer releases.

Forgot about this:

To enable dual channel mode, one stick should be in A1, the other in B1 (both blue slots).
