Comment:

Hi,
My system is -
Athlon XP 2000
Geforce FX 5200
256 133 DDR

I benchmarked UT2003 demo on 1024x + highest details etc.
score was 55fps flyby, 36 botmatch. Just wondering since ram is the only thing lacking in my system, would a new stick of 512DDR improve my FPS performance in games? or just loading times...
Thanks :)

Probably not
Your videocard and processor are not exactly top of the line either.

Not exactly top of the line? It sounds like a pretty sweet setup to me. I'd have put in another 256 Meg of RAM, but I doubt it would increase your FPS.

Jimi_l, to put your comment in perspective, take a look at the post below this one called "Processor conflict?", and this is where your comment should be directed. An Athlon XP 2000+ is a relatively new CPU. I won't comment on the video card, as I'm not a connoisseur.

Thanks C_legend,
I built my comp on a relatively strict budget, there for a didn't feel it neccessary to fork out x2 what i paid for another 500mhz in CPU power. True, the geforce fx 5200(upgraded from a tnt2) is the budget model in it's range, still a damn sweet card, hopefully capable of doom 3 when it arrives. Everything is running pretty top notch, games and apps bloody sour! My main concearn is my RAM, if there's reason to upgrade... then i will, so far i can't see any :)
Cheers :D

Not sure if it helps but if you want to get some more ran Best Buy has a stick of Crucial 512MB PC2100 for $55 then a $15 Mail In Rebate you cant get a much better deal then that.

I didn't say (or mean to imply) it was junk, I just said it was not top of the line.

The XP processor line is up to like 3200 and the FX line of cards was never high end. It is the replacement for the MX suffix and is a builders card not a game master.

I submit that dependant on the other components his best gaming improvement would not be a RAM upgrade but a better card.
