ram formating problem

Specs: Windows XP
hi i have a problem in formating my drive
the size of my drive D is 92.68 gb
i had a data amounting to about 2 gb. but when i used to see the drive's properties it showed use of 6 gb. i thought by formating it i will recover the lost space. but on formating it windows showed message that it was not able to format it. And the file got converted into a RAW file. now i did something i created a new partition.after that the new partition worked fine which is of 48gb. the other partition is still not formating.also i have a TuneUp Utilities 2009 running in my comp.
i hav a 250 gb hard disk with a intel core2 quad
plz help

You most likely have "show hidden files & folders" switched off...that would account for the "lost" space. In other words, you probably didn't have a problem, but you have now created one.

How are you trying to format?
