I'm going to be upgrading to a 512mB Module of DDR ram from my current 2x128MB SDR(I have to 2 different slots)

Should I get a heat spreader for the DDR chip? I do not have one for my SD ram

Not unless you overclock. but a case fan is always a good addition if you don't already have one.
