ram and beeps

Specs: Windows 2000 pro, pentuim 4 ,256 sddr 133mhz
problem started when i tried to put in a msi graphics card. i also removed the memory to read the type to upgrade it. when i tried to start it it started switched off started again and then did one short beep and 2 long beeps and displayed nothing on the monitor . i removed the card and tried again but i still got the short beep followed by two long and nothing on the monitor . i have tried buying new ram i brought a 512 pc300 400mhz said it can be backtracked to pc2100 but still i just get the same. any ideas please help its driving me mad...

First, restore the RAM and original graphics. See if the computer will now start. If not then reseat the RAM. I assume you were originally using onboard video?

You must connect the monitor to the card you are using. So when installing a new card you need to connect the monitor to the #1 port on the card.

thanks for the reply i have tried with the graphics card removed and the onboard one as it was now being used but i dont get any display on the monitor because it wont start. all i get is the beeps and i have tried new ram but that hasnt worked either? i am on an evo d51c i have tried reseting the cmos but i cant seem to make it work from there it has a yellow button but no jumpers unless any1 knows different.

update i changed the ram back to a new 133mhz 256mb pc2100 but still i get nothing it starts up then switches off then its the same 1 short beep 2 long beeps im stumped now.

Clean the edge connectors of the old RAM with a pencil eraser then poke the RAM in and out a few times to clear the oxide off the sockets. Do the same with the original graphics card.

See if that makes it work again before proceeding further..
