I could do with some help with my RAID, well I dont even know where to start I am going to be buying a couple of HD's soon and want to make use of my RAID controller on my ABIT KR7A-RAID mobo.
Whats the advantage of RAID? On my motherboard only IDE ports 3 and 4 support ATA133 RAID, does this mean I wouldnt need to use ports 1 & 2??
any help appreciated. thanks.

For your question of "does this mean I wouldnt need to use ports 1 & 2??" On your IDE 1&2. You would put your CD-ROM, CD-RW,ZIP's, ect. Up to four(4). On your IDE 3&4. You would put your HD's. Up to four(4) . You didn't say as to what kind of RAID. 0, 0+1, ect. You can put the HD's on IDE 1&2 but you where talking about RAID. Just because your MoBo has RAID built in doesn't mean you have to use RAID. For an e.g. you could have four(4) HD's on IDE 3&4(none RAID) and boot from anyone of the four(4) Same goes for RAID setup (little dif). * for a side note * You could have eight(8) HD's and boot from anyone of the eight :) But, you weren't asking that :)
What gif said, hmmm I use on both :) But, not all of my computers have RAID. What's that expression. Oh, yes, Greased Lightning ;-) But, that's my dealings with it.
When you get your HD's. Get them the same brand, speed(RPM, AAT, DTR) and size. Whoops, AAT=Average Access Time, DTR=Data Transfer Rate Sure you know what RPM is :)
Good Luck

Hey i have the same board. Do you know that you can use the raid channels as regular channels aswell? I am currently using one of them to run 2 hard disks just like the Primary IDE channel. So i have 4 hard disks ... 2 on the primary IDE and 2 on the first raid channel and 2 cd drives on the secondary channels.
