I'm looking into getting a RAID controller for backing my info. I have heard that it is the cheapest way to do a complete and instantaneous backup of my drive. I'm also hearing that I should buy two identical harddrives for it. Is this a necessity or could I just get a drive the size of my first one?
I have heard that installing RAID for linux is very difficult. Is this true for XP? Would win2000 OS make it easier?

RAID is easy in XP. You should use identical drives for optimal performance, but you could use a drive that is the same or larger than your existing for mirror in RAID 1 array. Check your RAID controller documentation for details. HTH
