Is it possible for a drive to have a write error in a raid 5 setup, which makes a drive drop offline? The drive rebuilt fine after it dropped off. Want to know if this is common, and or should I replace the drive?

I used to run a SCSI Raid stack on a Compaq server (back in the days when 5Gb was BIG), and I never saw this happen - and I assume (??) that things have got more reliable since then. If it had, I would have replaced the disc, and, having run all the tests I could get, held it as an off-line spare if it seemed OK.

Obviously it depends on how critical the system and data is.
