I servicing for first time a server. It is a Compaq proliant 1600 with a raid 5 array usind a smartstar scsi controller, it uses three ultra wide scsi 9.1 Gb (0,1,2). Server reported at power on disk 1 broken (change), fault LED on. Server any way woked without more problems. Disk 0 and 2 were ok.
I swapped disk 1 and 2 for troubleshoot, but now all LED´s of disk 2 are off, LED´s of disk 0 are OK. Smart start utility reports disk 0 ok, disk 1 failed and disk 2 as "replacement". Server does not boot any more saying operating system missing.
People from HP told me that disk 2 became inactive because swap, is just necessary to install a new disk and array controller will
recover by it self. It is possible to set back active disk 2 using any utility? Is possible to do any thing related to disk 2? before I get a new disk (It takes 1 week).

If you swapped 2 disks around and put them in different slots, then you have wipped the array on your server.

There is no way of recovering data. You will have to rebuild the O/S and then restore from backup.

Thanks for your time,
I connected a scsi 36gb as disk 1 and disk 2 is active again. Disconnected again disk 1 and my server came up again.
