Comment:

I'm working on a family members computer and the problem is that her raid arry for no apparent reason now shows one hdd as a member disk and the other as a non-raid disk. Is there any way to repair this without reformatting/repetitioning and re setting up the raid?

It's beyond me why people mess up their systems by installing raid (especially raid 0).

I suspect that model dell came with raid 0 preconfigured !!!!

To the best of my knowledge this can thappen on its own, the only way you can detach a drive from a raid array is through the software manager or the raid contrller.

And even thna you will get warning messages that data loss will be experinced, array dont fall apart just like that...

Nothing wronng with raid when set up correctly and ppl dont mess with the configuration....

Common pratice with heigh end company servers, in a number of configs, 0, 1 and 5, dont see them going wrong when correctly maintained...

Soulmonger, perhaps you need to supply some more information: Complete systems specs, retail or custom built machine, hard-drives installed, etc.

Is this RAID setup using two disks of different sizes? That might explain it.

Janos, if Dell sells home users PCs with drives set up as raid 0, that REALLY boggles my mind!

I believe you Janos. But it sounds pretty stupid to me. I don't believe a normal home user will benefit to any extent from raid 0 and it really leaves him open to lose all the data on both disks if one fails.
I'm a non-believer in raid for home users. I even think it's better to use a second disk for regular backups than to use raid 1.
