I have a friend and i'm looking at his PC, the problem is that the Video Card will not work with the first power up or re-boot, has to be the second. I loaded the driver from the ATI disc and now after the Me screen, it does nothing. I can boot in "Safe Mode", but I can't get the video card to work... What caused it to only work after the 2nd power up and why has it quit after re-installing the drivers????
Thanks for you Help....
Rick A.

Would you clarify 'will not work' please? It obviously does work when you boot up in safe mode. Do you mean the screen goes blank when you get to 'normal' windows?

I doubt if it will work, but you could try going into the bios and disable any `fast boot' option.

I don't see any "Fast Boot" in the Bios, where is it??? Also on the first power up, you get no "Beep", but do on the 2nd power up....

AHA, no beep means that the system did not start. So you `probably' have a flaky connection on the motherboard. Does this only happen in the morning when the system is cold?

Any time the first time you power up the system..... "Flaky" connection where the video card connects to the MB??? I have had the board in & out and it fits tight...

The reason I ask that is because the hardware shrinks when it is cold and poor connections tend to open up. After the machine has been on a while things warm up and the connection can close. These poor connections can be anywahere, even inside a chip.

It's very unlikely to be the video card. You should get error beeps for video card or RAM problems. You could try disconnecting all the drives and pull all the cards to see if it still fails the same way. Or maybe he could just live with it. :-)

Reseating the mobo power connector would probably be a good thing to try. Also trying another power supply is pretty easy.

I checked in Safe Mode in the Device Manager and the video cards looks ok and I also updated the drivers from there...But still it will only work on the 2nd power up and I only get the "Beep" on the 2nd power up...
