I have a GeForce256 Pro graphics card and currently thinking of upgrading it.
I've decided that ATI Radeon 9600 Pro seems to give best performance for the price and it is dx9 compatible.
The only thing is that on ATI's website it says that 9500 & 9700 supports 2x, 4x, 8x AGP and AGP Spec 3.0
my a7v (100MHz bus) motherboard is AGP 2.0 compatible and supports 1x 2x and 4x AGP.
Will a 9600 PRO work with my motherboard?
I know that my PC is quite low spec by current standards, but I don't want to have to upgrade the motherboard/processor yet if it is not necessary. But I do want to get video card that will be powerful enough when I do finally upgrade...
if a 9600 will not work - what video card would be best to use with the a7v?
I have a 300W PSU.
thanks for your advice.

hey u have the same mobo as meeeee:D
hmmm i'm thinking of upgrading to a newer graphics card and previously thought about the same card... and finally i'm gonna go for a R8500 64mb... its cheap on ebay or newegg and the performance isn't bad for the buck.
back to the 9600... i think it should work since agp8X cards can work on 4x slots but not the other way around. The problem then would be that u would lose some performance because of it, altho some would say u wouldn't coz not many new games can make use of the 8x nor the Dx9 and the 128mb of ram (for now) but i suppose u buy it to 'future proof' ur hardware for as long as possible.
I dropped the idea to buy a higher Radeon card because for my mobo and processor i don't think its worth paying alot of money for a card that would seriously be slowed down by the rest of the system. So i decided that cheaper cards with good performance (which can still play todays games) are the way to go... cards like Radeon 8500/LE (9100), geforce4 4200Ti, and if ur lucky the 4600Ti 128mb ram with these cards will be a bonus!
