Radeon 9550 - Can't See

June 11, 2009 at 23:51:41
Specs: Windows XP Home
I am trying to install this video card but with little luck. It is hard to explain but I will try.

My computer has a on board monitor plug, then if I put the card in, it also has a plug.. obviously. Anyways, when I plug in the card, my computer automatically changes the Display Adapter to the AGP slot. So, when I plug in the card I get no signal from the on board plug. When I plug it in to the card, I can see everything up till the point windows loads.. that loading screen with the bar.. it turns black. I can put in my password without seeing anything and I hear windows opening. So I figure if I take the card out and plug in my monitor into the onboard plug, the card will come up in new hardware so I can install the drivers for it so I can see when it is plugged in. Wrong. It never shows up, and I can not see with it plugged in so I can not update the drivers for it. Also, like I said, I can not have the card plugged in as it disables the on board plug so I can not see that way either. And I can not upgrade this specific card without it in my hardware so the display driver will install.

Can somebody PLEASE end this nightmare?

Did you try going into the BIOS and telling it to disable the AGP so your onboard is the primary so you can go in and install yout video card?

You could also try safe mode.

Abit AN8
AMD64 X2 4200 @2.5Ghz
Corsair 3Gig Dual-Channel 2x512 2x1gig
MSI R4830
Seagate 160Gig SATA
Seagate 320Gig SATA
External 1T

You have to enter the BIOS & change the 'Initial Display 1st' setting to AGP, disable the onboard video & change the 'shared memory' amount to none.
