Subject: Radeon 7500 Won't Install !!OS: XP HomeCPU/Ram: Celeron / 256 SDRAM |
Comment: I just got a Radeon 7500 PCI and tried to install it today. I went through all the instuctions, but the damn Intel keeps trying to re-install itself. I just need someone to give me a procedure of what to do. All I have now is the Intel still running and the Radeon in the PCI slot, but it isn't active. Dell 2350 256 MB SDRAM Celeron 2 gig Intel Extreme Graphics

Reply: (edit)Did you disable the onboard graphics in the BIOS? Also change the first display to AGP. Before you do that, change the display type to Std. VGA, remove any previous ATI driver installs and then re-boot to BIOS. Make changes and boot to windows and install ATI Drivers

Reply: (edit)I checked the BIOS before I started the installation process and there was no onboard video options. Also the card is PCI, not AGP. The computer is not mine, it's a friends, so I probably won't be able to do much with it for about a week, so I'm trying to gather as much info as I can. I tried dissabling the onboard card in the device manager, but still had no luck. If I plugged the monitor into the card, the monitor didn't respond. At least the computer recognized the card. I just gotta get the Intel dissabled.

Reply: (edit)Is that one of those intel chipset boards with no AGP slot? I recently checked into that chipset at Intel's website and garnered some info. I had a friend that couldn't understand why he shouldn't order one of those Dell machines and I was trying to convince him(sucessfully) not to order one. Anyway, Intel's site does have some info on the chipset. You may be able to install the Radeon even if you can't disable the onboard video. Prior to the advent of dual-head cards, many people were successful in getting two or even three displays running. I think that dell has the ability to alter the BIOS settings from the OS, or at least from the HD. I would suggest that you log onto the Dell site. I found a forum there that may be able to help.

Reply: (edit)It's not necessary to disable the current video adapter. Just find the way to switch to the new card. If you can't find it in the Bios, check Display Properties/Settings/Advanced.

Reply: (edit)I went to Dell and they said that the BIOS need to be updated to be able to switch the display to the PCI card. So thats what I'll do next time I try it.
