hi
i've isolated a problem with a customer's laptop to it rebooting when tilted backwards around 30 degrees. sounds weird doesn't it. i've proved it over and over. i've seperately checked the power cable and plug connection into the back of the chasis, i'm happy that it's not that.
it will run forever just sitting on the desk or perfectly still on my lap.
however, if i tip it backwards slowly, once it reaches a certain point it powers off and reboots.
any ideas???? i'm stumped!

I've never heard of a "Quirky" laptop. That brand name is just not familiar to me.
How about some sort of keyboard/ hinge/ lid/standby switch?
I would CERTAINLY double triple check the ower connection.

Yeah I'd be guessing it uses something along the lines of a mercury switch which has somehow been twisted so it shuts down at the wrong angle.

thanks guys, i've checked the power cable and transformer, i'm happy that it's defintaely not that.
excuse my ignorance, but what's a mercury switch? you're not talking about a 'liquid mercury' switch surely?
sometimes, just picking up the laptop from the table with little perceiveable tilt will cause it to reboot.
i'm starting to believe it might be a short circuit on the main metal chassis beneath the plastic chassis? possible?
thanks for your help so far. by the way, it's a PC World 'Ei' model laptop with a DixonsXP motherboard.
