Subject: quick question about turning pc off
OS: windows xp
CPU/Ram: 3ghz P4/1024mb
Manufacturer/Model: self built
Comment:

I've been wondering for a while which one of these methods is better and why.

1. shut down a non-responsive pc by unplugging it at the wall

or

2. by pressing and holding the power switch for a number of seconds.

I have always been told to avoid doing the first one if I can, but I don't know if that's the right answer.

Thanks.

Number 2 is the best. Unplugging from the wall IMO could cause a jolt to the motherboard.

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

Yeah number 1 should be your very last option if number 2 doesn't work. Don't ever try number 1 unless there is no way of turning off your pc.

most psu's come with a switch on the back to turn the power off and back on with... it would be sufice also, but I would make the wall unplug the last option.
