Reply: (edit)Hi, The board has to be able to support the memory you want to use. Otherwise you run the risk of having problems. The same applies to the amount of memory also. Check with the board manufacturer to see what they recommend. Most times they will not be very helpful if you use a type, or speed, or memory that they do not recommend.

Reply: (edit)pcxxxx memory is physically all the same, they just have different ratings. Think of a rating as a guarantee. So pc3200 is guaranteed to run at 400mhz, but it might also run at 440mhz. And if you put it on a mobo that only supports 333mhz, that mobo will run it at 333mhz. "do u have to have a special motherboard to use pc4500" yes, if you want to run it at 533Mhz. No, if you want to run it at the speed your mobo can handle.

Reply: (edit)I recently purchased a Corsair XMS Platinum(DDR 1GB TwinX1024-3200C2PT) And for the record I'm a "newbie".I built this baby a week or so ago, but I'm unable to get it to run in dual channel.I'm running it on the Abit IC7-Max3 motherboard and yes!It is single/dual channel capable.I have 550 watt power supply so it can't be a lack of power issue. I have followed the manual to a t, and to get dual chanel the rules are DIMM1+DIMM3 or slots DIMM2+DIMM4, but when I do this set up my computer won't boot up.To get it to work I have it on DIMM1+DIMM2 but it's only single channel. Is it me or is it my memory? Reply: (edit)I have a IC7-G and popped in 1 gig of DDR400 Dual Channel and the board automatically detected it and says "Dual Channel Mode Enabled" on startup. I didn't have to do anything else to get it to work.
