It still is an IDE cable. Except has more pins and also supplies power.

i thought it was like a pcmia or pcma or sumthing like that, if that rings any bells...

and i was thinking about pulling a laptop hdd and plugging it into my desktop.

There is an adapter made to convert the 2.5 drive to the standard IDE cable. About $5-10.

If you mean via a PCMCIA slot on a laptop, then here is an example that comes with a drive cloning kit I have. But this requires a PCMCIA slot that only comes with laptops/notebooks. I think there is a similar kit that connects to a USB port which would work with a desktop PC.

wizard-fred, with the adapter you mention, how does the drive get power? I don't think the standard IDE cable carries power. Also, can you post a link to an example of this adapter, please?

hi
40 pin to 44 pin ide adapter required , unless its a new toshiba drive, which uses the new smaller standard 1.8 inch, plenty on ebay.
