Comment: Okay, I have a couple questions on what I need to do in order to upgrade my Intel Celeron 766 MHz processor. Say I wanted to upgrade my Celeron 766 MHz processor to get a Celeron 2.0 GHz processor, would the upgrade be compatible with my motherboard, as long as it's Celeron? Are Celeron processors only compatible on specific motherboards? I would really appreciate it if someone would to answer my questions. I Don't Know How To Find What My Motherboard Specifications are, if you would know where to find them, please Holla Back.

Reply: (edit)No, you have to purchase a new mainboard, and yes Celerons are only compatible with some motherboards... you can go to manufacturers web sites for info regarding what processers are compatible with what.. e.g. Asus, Intel etc..

Reply: (edit)Nick is correct. the 766 is an FCPGA Celeron using a socket 370 mobo and the 2.0Ghz is an FCPGA2 and needs a Socket 478 mobo. The 766 may be able to be upgraded to a 1.1Ghz FCPGA on the same motherboard if the chipset and the BIOS will accept it and the Bus speed can be boosted to 100 from 66.

Reply: (edit)I should also add that your RAM may also be PC66 which would need to be replaced with at least PC100 or PC133 to install a 1.1Ghz Celeron on the same board. Also, the 1.1 comes in two different types the FCPGA and the FCPGA2 and only the FCPGA should work on your existing Motherboard (they are both socket 370, but I don't think they are interchangable. The FCPGA2 is based on a different core and has a different cache size and I think it runs at a different voltage).
