Question on WD External Drive

Hi all, I just bought a WD 250 External HD for backup purposes. I just read in the documentation that it "is preformatted as a single FAT 32 partition for compatibility with all Windows operating systems..." My XP Pro system is formatted in NTFS. Is this going to create a problem with an image of my system backed up on this external drive? Thanks for any info Gary

I don't believe so, but if you're worried about it just format it as NTFS

You can use either format and it will work. If you use FAT32 though, you should break it down into a few smaller partitions...FAT32 can sometimes go bad with large partitions There is also a (about) 4 gig file size limit with FAT32.
Ntfs on the other hand does not have these problems, but it is much harder to work with when a screw up occurs.

No problem with it as is.
You can avoid many of these Windows problems with Linux. Linspire eases the transition for new users
