2.66GHz w/1.5GB RAM seems fairly reasonable. What is it that your current system can't do? Your internet experience will only be as fast as your internet connection

Your inernet download and upload speed is dependant on your service provider and the contract you have with them.
Typically the upload speed is a lot slower than the download speed.
Contact your service provider for the speed avilable to you on your contract, also check to see if a higher one is available (at an increased cost).
This information should be available on your ISP's home page when you log in to your account.
No new computer, no matter how fast, you purchase will make the upload speed any faster.
As jam said you have a reasonable system now.

jam and anmor.....thanks for the response!

what is happening is; when i open news online i.e. abc...nbc...cnn....links to developments are slow to load, takes forever to open pages, especially when the newslink is a video segment.

someone gave me the speed test link, and asked me to test my speeds....when i did, my download was good they said, but my "upload" should have been at least in the 500+kbps
and said i need a faster pc....i wanted to see what some of you recommended...
