Question on memtest86

I'm trying to test the memory in a HP pavilion XL866 which I've upgraded to 512RAM and have been having problems with Windows XP crashing on boot-up. Someone on the forum directed me to download memtest86 V3.0 and I executed the program w/ no problems....but 10 hrs later it is still testing. How long does it usually take? It's passed 16 tests and has not reported any errors yet. I'm testing 2 sticks, 256MB RAM/133Mhz each. Thanks.

after 10 hours, i'd say you can stop testing...i usually do 4 passes of memtest, some sandra burn-in and 3dmark01 to test for stability...after an overclock, but you won't be able to do any overclocking with that HP, but at least you know that it's probably not your memory causing the problems

Yes, the memory tests loop until you stop them. I usually let it run overnight. Memory failures `can' be very intermittent.
