Comment:

My current system has a Maxtor 60 G 7200 RPM Hd with a 2 Mb buffer. I am going to add a new one and have a master / slave configuration. I can get one of the same for approx. $125 CDN or spend almost twice that amount for a 80G Western Digital with an 8 mb buffer. Is there enough of a performance difference to justify the extra $$ for the WD drive? I don't actually need the extra 20 G.
Tia for your opinions.
Gary

the differnece between the price of hard drive is their memory buffer, the higher memory buffer it has, more speed on transfering data

I don't think that the performance/size advantage justifies double the cost.

Depends on what you use the PC for. If you are doing some major video editing and such then you will see a great improvment in performance. If not dont bother.

I saw an 80gig Maxtor 7200 ATA 100 HDD at Costco today for $119 plus tax. Also saw one at Pricewatch.com for $114 out the door. I saw the same one at Best Buy for $139. I'm getting one just so I can split my other two up in different 'puters and I only have 50 gig now (a 40 and a 10).

Have a great day

Clyde
