Comment: My current system has a Maxtor 60 G 7200 RPM Hd with a 2 Mb buffer. I am going to add a new one and have a master / slave configuration. I can get one of the same for approx. $125 CDN or spend almost twice that amount for a 80G Western Digital with an 8 mb buffer. Is there enough of a performance difference to justify the extra $$ for the WD drive? I don't actually need the extra 20 G. Tia for your opinions. Gary

Reply: (edit)the differnece between the price of hard drive is their memory buffer, the higher memory buffer it has, more speed on transfering data

Reply: (edit)Depends on what you use the PC for. If you are doing some major video editing and such then you will see a great improvment in performance. If not dont bother.

Reply: (edit)I saw an 80gig Maxtor 7200 ATA 100 HDD at Costco today for $119 plus tax. Also saw one at Pricewatch.com for $114 out the door. I saw the same one at Best Buy for $139. I'm getting one just so I can split my other two up in different 'puters and I only have 50 gig now (a 40 and a 10). Have a great day Clyde
