Ok, I bought a new computer and this is my 4th custom build. I'm certain i know what it is but I wanna make sure.
DFI P965-S infinity
scythe 120mm heatsink
e6600 (b2 stepping, L70 model)
4GB (4x1GB) Crucial Ballistix PC8000 @ 2.2 @ 5-5-5-15
antec p180b case
Ultra infinity 600w PSU
8800 GTS 640
Windows XP 64 bit
Raptor 150GB driveI can boot to windows, but sometimes when I stress it even a little or try to run orthos, it restarts (even at slightly above stock speeds, 2.8) LAME, so I think something is wrong with either my PSU/mobo/memory.
I go in and I swap my PSU from my other comp (Thermaltake toughpower 700w) and it does the same thing.
Next step, run memtest! I do test2 and it runs fine... @ 3042 mhz cpu speed.
Nope, still restarts, so I'm sure I have to do the full default memtest to test every memory factor. I then think, hey, maybe the 4GB is interferring. I turn off comp, flip the power switch, and hit the power button to empty the caps. Then I proceed to remove the memory... the things are HOT! I'm running them @ 840 mhz @ 5-5-5-15 with 2.2 volts... WEIRD. So I take all but 1GB stick and run memtest. Fail fail fail fail, im like crap, that's my problem... put in another stick... fail... put in my other sticks... fail.
What next? Well, I take out my patriots from my other comp and put it in (i know it works cuz I did the full 8 hour wall test for these) and it fails also.
Runs about 2-3 times hotter than in my other computer. Is it my VTT voltage off or what.
I THINK it's the motherboard, it's been giving me all sorts of problems.

Since it doesn't seem like you are having these problems when running all the components within specs (which is what the manufacturers guarantee) it is pretty much up in the air as to why you think there is a problem with the computer.
No two components or systems are alike & neither do they behave identically under torture tests especially when overclocked. Therefore, if you are overclocking the system & you encounter issues with stress tests at out of spec settings you have really proven that there is something fundamentally wrong with the hardware.

If you are overclocking the mboard/cpu/ram, set them to standard settings.
There is no such thing as PC8000 ram, but there is PC28000 and PC28500 ram.
Your mboard can use only PC2xxxx ram.
PC28000 ram doesn't have 5-5-5-15 timings, but PC28500 does.
For your mboard crucial lists
a PC28500 2GB kit (1GBx2), Ballistix 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-8500 memory module
BL2KIT12864AA1065US http://www.crucial.com/store/mparts...
and a Ballistix Tracer ram - 2 gb kit DDR2 PC2-8500
http://www.crucial.com/ballistix/st..."....the things are HOT! I'm running them @ 840 mhz @ 5-5-5-15 with 2.2 volts..."
They should no get that hot - if they get too hot they will fail.
Is that 840mhz a custom setting of yours?
PC28500 runs at 1066 mhz (533mhz x 2).
If it is, you could try setting the ram detection to "by SPD" or similar, but you may have ruined the ram already."...What next? Well, I take out my patriots from my other comp and put it in (i know it works cuz I did the full 8 hour wall test for these) and it fails also."
Ram working in another computer does not necessarily mean it will work in the P965-S - the Patriot ram has to be compatible with the mboard chipset.
"Is it my VTT voltage off or what."
Look in your bios Setup current readings.

That article lists them as both PC8000 and PC28000. There are misquotes and typos all over the web if you look for them. There is no PC8000 on the Supertalent web site.
Crucial does not have PC8000 ram and that's what he claims he has.

He's running an E6600 so it stands to reason that he has PC2-8000 RAM & just left out the 2.

The default clock speed is 500MHz (DDR1000) & apparently he's running it at 420MHz (DDR840).
vietdeity,
Why are you running your RAM at that speed? You *should* be running a CPU:DRAM ratio of 1:1. The E6600 has a default multi of 9x. Assuming you haven't changed the multi, if the CPU is overclocked to 3042MHz, it would mean the CPU freq is set to 338MHz (aka 1352MHz FSB). Therefore, your RAM should be running at 338MHz, not 420MHz...there's no point running it faster than the CPU.
Also, is there a BIOS setting for Command Rate? If so, is it set at 1T or 2T? If it's at 1T, change to 2T, then try running memtest86 again.
